Here at Moixa, we are obsessed with social responsibility and sustainability. I don't know if that came from my childhood where my parents preached about not wasting food, turning off unneeded lights or upcycling things around the house. Somehow it stuck in my brain. I find it hard to throw anything away without first thinking of its impact on the world, its history and its worth.

I have buttons, zips, ribbons from old clothes, pieces of broken jewellery and many other bits & bobs that I cannot throw away. I have always wondered if there were others out there with the same wonderment.

Known for structural pieces that feature rare sustainable materials, designer Monique Péan creates fashionable, wearable jewellery made from fossilized dinosaur bones, fossilized walrus ivory and meteorites.

She pairs these found materials exclusively with recycled gold and platinum as well as repurposed stones that come from several different sources, including existing jewellery. Péan travels to remote locations globally to find materials for her jewellery, sourcing through fair trade initiatives.

Péan began designing her sustainable jewellery to express her creative side while also having a positive social impact. Her aim, to successfully prove that high-end does not have to mean high-impact.
