It is estimated that one-third of the food we eat relies on insect pollination.
Located inside a wooden and copper structure, built in the woodland of The Newt estate in Somerset, the ‘Beezantium’ houses a selection of our wild bee colonies and a multi-sensory exhibition.
Designed by Invisible Studio Architects this house for bees allows you to peek into the fascinating life of bees and their hives.
The first of its kind in the UK, the project was developed with Paula Carnell (aka ‘Queen Bee’), The Newt’s head beekeeper and global bee consultant who has been beekeeping for quite some time at the estate. Her approach to beekeeping is to encouraging wild bees, chemical-free colonies and gentle honey harvesting.
The Newt estate offers Bee Safari, where you will visit hidden areas of the gardens, with a chance to watch bees in both trees and hives. At the end of the safari visitors can take part in a honey tasting class, before taking home some fresh from the hive honey.
