Edible Food Containers

Created by design studio Forest and Whale in an attempt to cut down on single-use plastic, Reuse is a container for takeaways that can be eaten or composted.

Made from wheat husk, the edible container can hold food for up to three hours depending on the moisture released by its contents. As well as edible, it was designed with four small pre-cut lines that allow you to break off pieces that can be used to eat with.

Don’t fancy eating your container? Don’t worry, it can be placed in a normal compost bin where it will decompose in about 30 days. Although the lid is made from polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHA), a bacteria-based composite that is not edible, it is also fully biodegradable and can be composted as food waste.

The Reuse is only a prototype at the moment, but the Forest and Whale team hope to bring the containers to market sometime this year.
