The Airless Football

Japanese studio Nendo has developed a non-inflatable, build-your-own football that gives the same sense of kicking as a traditional ball.

Designed for sports equipment company Molten, My Football Kit is a 54-piece interlocking module made from soft recycled polypropylene and synthetic resin.  Inspired by the structure of the traditional Japanese woven bamboo ball, the puzzle-like pieces clip together to form a skeletal sphere. Soft enough not to hurt bare feet, the ball is designed to stay intact even if an individual piece falls off in the middle of a game.

Available in a range of different colours to allow a child to personalise their football, the modules also come with a matching drawstring bag and picture book instructions in easily understood illustrations with no text designed to be understood by children across the globe.
